Rangnick gives full backing to Ten Hag

The Dutch coach will lead Manchester United from next season.

Interim

Manchester United

boss Ralf Rangnick has defended his successor, Erik Ten Hag, and talked about his future at the end of the season.

Manchester United confirmed on Thursday that Ten Hag will replace Rangnick at Old Trafford and will lead the team from next season. The Dutchman has won 73.8% of his 210 games at

Ajax

and will become the fifth manager since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. Now Rangnik defended him and wished him success.

"We don't know each other, we haven't met as yet in person. I knew that Erik was one of the candidates the board spoke to.

"Obviously I told them, at least from what I had seen and know from people who have worked with Erik, that I think he would be a good choice.

"From I've seen of him, both at Bayern Munich when he was the under 23 coach and at Ajax now, I like his football.

"I'm positive with a full pre-season, with having the chance to build and mould his own staff and also a new team, we will see a different team and an improvement on the pitch."

Under the German coach's contract with Manchester United, he will continue to work as a club consultant for two years, but it seems that the German coach is not sure about the implementation of this plan.

He said: "We haven't had time to speak about that."
