Four countries bid to host 2022/23 Nations League finals

UEFA has confirmed Wales wants to host the 2022-23 Nations League finals. Wales is also part of a five-nation UK and Ireland bid to host Euro 2028.

Four countries have declared an interest to UEFA in hosting the four-team event between June 14 and 18 of next year, with

Wales,

joined by Belgium, the Netherlands, and Poland. The deadline for submitting bids is until October 5. Uefa will make a decision on hosting in January 2023.

The four countries to have declared an interest in hosting the finals are in Group 4 of League A. The Nations League finals are played between the four League A group winners, with the semi-final winners facing each other in the final. So if Wales wants to host the finals they have to win their group.

The big talking point from the

group stage draw

was the heavyweight group assembled in League A, where Italy, England, and Germany will meet each other. The last-place team in that group, which also includes Hungary, will be relegated to League B.

France

got a favorable draw against Denmark, Croatia, and Austria. Meanwhile, Belgium and the Netherlands were drawn in the same group, as were neighbors Spain and Portugal.

The first edition of the tournament in 2019 was in Portugal, while Italy hosted it in 2021. Portugal won the first edition and France defeated Spain 2-1 last October in the final of the 2020/21 edition in Italy.
