Genoa fired Andriy Shevchenko after two months
The former Ukrainian coach was removed from Genoa bench after a brief stint in the team.
Just two months after appearing on the
Genoabench, the Ukrainian football legend was fired from the club.
Conditions in the early months of Andriy Shevchenko's presence at Genoa did not go well at all, and the forner
AC Milanstar lost his job. Genoa suffered a defeat against
Spezialast week and now, after 21 weeks, the team is ranked 19th in the Serie A table. Genoa eliminated from the Coppa Italia two days ago after losing 3-1 to Milan.
Shevchenko has gained just three points since taking over at the club in early November. Genoa is not far from being relegated to the second division of Italian football, and the hiring of Andriy Shevchenko did not solve the problem of the team. The combination of these factors eventually led the Genoa leaders to order his removal.
Andriy Shevchenko previously led the Ukrainian national team and reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 last summer. Interestingly, Shevchenko is likely to start working soon after leaving Genoa to lead the Polish national team. The Polish federation has recently held talks with Fabio Cannavaro, but a final decision has not yet been made and there is a possibility that Shevchenko will be on the bench.
