Queiroz questions VAR for no penalty awarded against Nigeria
The Portuguese tactician questioned VAR when his side were not gifted a penalty in their 1-0 defeat against Nigeria in the Group D battle in the AFCON.
When the game was ending, the Egyptian squad pressurized Bakary Gassama to gift a penalty following
Moses Simon
’s slipping and bringing down
Zizo
. However, it was not agreed with, as they said the foul was done by the
Zamalekwinger.
The VAR checked the incident and had the same opinion as the on-field referee.
Carlos Queiroz
reviewed the incident and believed that a penalty should have been rewarded.
He questioned the decision made by VAR, Queiroz said:
"In the second half, there was a penalty very clear for us that the referee did not whistle, and the VAR did not intervene.
"Maybe at that time the VAR was not working. There was clearly a penalty. It was not our day, it was also not a good day for refereeing.
"Even my grandmother would have blown for this penalty on the fault on our player. It's a disaster because there are referees from VAR.
"This is unacceptable. Watch the action yourself. It's amazing that with all these referees, no one indicated the fault".
Since their most difficult clash of the group is now over,
Nigeriacan now focus on Sudan on Saturday, and a win can seal a spot for them in the next round.
