Why the UK is the best place for golf on the planet?

Why the UK is the best place for golf on the planet I know what you’re thinking, you’ve seen the PGA Tour in America traipsing around pristine courses on the television and you’re thinking how does anyone compete with that?

But anyone who has travelled the UK playing golf will know just how much depth there is in absolute quality golf courses that, and this is key, can be played by anyone.

Despite the image of a stuffy British golf club most in the most part you and your friends can call up the club and go play, this is a far cry from playing golf in the largely private clubs of America and let’s face it, most of the world.

This likely comes from the spiritual home of golf that is Scotland. At the likes of the iconic

St Andrews

,

Carnoustie

and others anyone can play the world famous courses, locals play all year for £200 and at the fantastic Carnoustie Under 18’s in the area can play and get coaching for free.

We know about Scotland though but what makes the UK the best is just how widespread the quality golf courses are and in every region.

At the total other end of the country in Cornwall there are magnificent seaside links courses in

St Enodoc

,

Trevose

,

Perranporth

and

Newquay

which offer incredible views, unique golfing challenges and tremendous value.

Heading further up the country

Burnham and Berrow

on the way to Bristol offers more incredible links golf and just around the corner over the Severn Bridge in Wales

Royal Porthcawl

continues the links paradise list whilst those preferring the resort style can visit

Celtic Manor

which offers great stay and play deals on a Ryder Cup course.

Even bang in the middle of the country

Birmingham offers fantastic options to play the game

whilst heading further north

Royal Lytham

,

Royal Birkdale

and

Formby

are all within a stone’s throw of each other.

Hop across to Northern Ireland and

Royal County Down

and

Royal Portrush

are two of the planet’s best golf courses offering incredible fun on and off the course.

And even in the nation’s capital in London you don’t have to venture far to find

Walton Heath

,

Sunningdale

and even

Prince’s

towards the channel.

My point is these are just a random smattering of the incredible golf in every region in the UK but for every one of these there are ten gems nearby offering great value, accessibility and above all unique and often historic challenges.

Nowhere else on the planet can you be driving along in any part of the country, drive through a village or a town in some of its most remote areas and stumble upon a gem of a course and quite often have the option to park up, speak to the pro and get yourself on the course!

Sometimes in the UK we can lament our weather, football teams or politicians even but one thing we are truly blessed with is the best golf anywhere in the world.
