Pulisic hits back at Mexico's Ochoa with a controversial celebration

The Chelsea star revealed a message after scoring his side's opening goal in their victory over Mexico.

The United States men's national team defeated Mexico 2-0 in their World Cup qualifier on Friday.

Christian Pulisic

opened the scoring for the USMNT in the 74th minute before marking his goal by revealing a special shirt.

'Man in the Mirror' was written on Pulisic's shirt, with the message appearing to be a response to comments made by Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Before the game, the experienced goalkeeper spoke about the USMNT in a provocative interview.

"Mexico has been that mirror in which [the USMNT] want to see themselves,"

the goalkeeper told

TUDN

.

"They want to reflect and they want to copy us."

In a post-match interview, Pulisic was asked about his celebration.

"I think we've earned their respect,"

the Chelsea star said.

"The last couple times we played them, they understand what we're about and we understand what they're about. That's what makes a great rivalry.

"And I'm just really happy that we could come out on top tonight. We knew it was going to be a good game against Mexico and three points just help us get closer to qualifying for the World Cup."

USMNT leapfrogged Mexico to go on top of the Concacaf qualification table. They will face Jamaica in their next World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.
