Newcastle Utd fan’s health mattered more than victory, says Reguilon

Tottenham full-back Sergio Reguilon has said the health of a fan who was taken to hospital is more important to him than his side’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle United.

The match was halted before the half-time break after it became clear that a fan required immediate medical treatment.

The

Tottenham

full-back detected the fan and alerted referee

Andre Marriner

to stop the match. At the same time, his partner

Eric Dier

alerted the doctors on the benches to come to see him urgently.

He received medical care and attention from paramedics before being taken to a local hospital for further treatment.

Reguilon

, who was praised for his reaction, said the win mattered little after such an incident.

"I think three points is always a moment of happiness but, for me, what's more important is the guy, they are telling me he is okay and stable,"

he told

Match of the Day

.

"I saw the fans waving and I saw a guy lying down. I saw something wrong had happened. I looked at the referee and he stopped the match. I think now everything is okay and 100 percent happiness.

"It was very strange, we went to the dressing room and I was looking at the man lying down, I was nervous because I don't like to watch that."
