Hargreaves holds Fred responsible for Everton’s equalizer

The ex-United favorite slammed the Brazilian for having a role in the Toffees’ equalizer.

Owen Hargreaves

was frustrated when

Fred

played a role in

Everton

’s goal that leveled the game with

Manchester United

, insisting that

Sir Alex Ferguson

would have benched him for “a month”.

The Red Devils failed to sit top of the Premier League table as they drew the battle against Everton 1-1 on Saturday.

Anthony Martial scored the opener early doors to give the lead to United only for Andros Townsend to cancel it out.

Everton were able to clear a United corner and Demarai Gray was fast in picking up the ball, nipping in ahead of Fred just in time.

Fred had another opportunity to win the ball back but he failed to deliver as Townsend slotted past David de Gea in the United net.

Hargreaves, who featured for United under the reign of Ferguson from 2007 to 2011, believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should teach Fred that he was responsible for not stopping Everton in their tracks.

Never ever, not in a million years [should that goal be allowed to happen],

" he told

Premier League Productions

 after the game.

“That’s what you get paid for, that’s why you’re there, that’s your job to stop that goal. I would’ve taken that personally.

“He’s got two cracks at it, and both [times] he loses. It can’t happen. Sir Alex wouldn’t forgive you for that, you wouldn’t have played for a month, seriously.

“He has to win those tackles. And if he loses it, you foul him, you bring him down. You’ve got to win that. You cannot get bumped off the ball by Demarai Gray and if he does, you foul him.

“United don’t have control of games - it’s their corner, how can a goal like that happen? I know Harry Maguire is missing and they miss his leadership but if you’re going to play two defensive midfielders in there – McTominay and Fred – that goal can’t happen.”

United will lock horns with

Leicester City

in the Premier League on October 16, before facing

Atalanta

in the group stage of the Champions League.
