Ambrosini urges Milan to stand firm in their negotiations with Kessie

The Ivorian midfielder has rejected the club’s offers to sign a new deal.

Franck Kessie

is spending the last year of his current contract at Milan, with the Ivorian refusing to sign a renewal with the Serie A giants.

Milan saw two of their key players leave on free transfers last season. Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu left the club to join PSG and Inter respectively as Milan are struggling to keep their star players.

Former Rossoneri midfielder Massimo Ambrosini hails Kessie for his special qualities but believes the club must set a limit in their proposed deals for the player.

“He’s a top player and the market teaches us that more and more great players choose to reach the end of their contract to have much richer salaries elsewhere,”

Ambrosini told

La Gazzetta dello Sport

.

“I don’t know how much he can aspire to earn; we enter a private sphere that I don’t know. The question is: is it worth giving up more money to commit a project? For me, the answer is yes.

“He must understand what his desire really is, if the love for what they do and where they do it are the predominant aspect or not.”

Since his move from Atalanta in 2019, Kessie has established himself as a key player for Milan. The 24-year-old made 50 appearances for the Rossoneri last season, scoring 14 goals and providing 6 assists.

Ambrosini added:

“A club like Milan should not be taken by the neck by anyone. Just make them the best possible offer, as it was for Donnarumma and Calhanoglu, but setting a limit.

“One must deserve to play for Milan. Kessie did it with the level of performances, with his leadership, always playing and never holding back.

“I hope for the good of Milan that Franck is happy with the offer and remains convinced of the choice.”

Milan have reportedly offered a four-year deal to Kessie earlier this summer, which was rejected by the player. The Ivorian has attracted

interest

from a host of top European clubs, including PSG, Tottenham, and Liverpool.
