Shaqiri is close to joining Lyon
Liverpool will allow Xherdan Shaqiri to leave the club for the Ligue 1 side.
After a long time of struggles for playing time at Anfield, the
Redshave decided to allow
Xherdan Shaqiri
to leave the club one year ahead of his contract expiration date. Switzerland international has been the high-priority target for
Lyonin the transfer market, and the reports suggest that the Ligue 1 side is going to finally sign the player for a fee of £9.5m (€11m).
The 29-year-old joined the Reds in the summer of 2018 and has made 45 appearances for the club, and now that he is getting close to his 30th birthday, he has asked the Reds head coach
Jurgen Klopp
to allow him to continue his career in another team where he can have more playing time.
The club has not been unaware of Shaqiri’s situation as they were considering his departure for the last 12 months, and they have even sanctioned Harvey Elliot’s loan to Blackburn to give him playing time, and now the 18-year-old has returned to Anfield and played in his side’s 2-0 victory against Burnley as a starter.
So Klopp, who had a lot of difficulty with the players’ fitness last season, is now working on the fresh power in his squad to prevent facing a storm of injuries again when they get further in the season.
