Southampton’s Vestergaard undergoes medical with Leicester City

The Denmark international has done his medical with Leicester City and the club is trying to complete the deal before their Premier League opener against Wolves on Saturday.

Leicester City

and

Southampton

reached an agreement on a deal worth £15m for

Jannik Vestergaard

on Wednesday hoping that they can finalize the deal before their Saturday clash.

The Foxes aimed to acquire the Danish centre-back as Wesley Fofana has been out of action since their pre-season friendly clash against

Villarreal

last week due to injury, whereas Jonny Evans is also sidelined due to a foot issue.

Rodgers tried to acquire Vestergaard’s services in 2020. The centre-back made a move to Southampton in 2018 on a deal worth £18m from Borussia Monchengladbach. He featured in 32 matches under the reign of

Ralph Hasenhuttl

last season as the Saints ended the Premier League sitting 15th on the table.

Speaking on Thursday, Hasenhuttl said:

"We have lost Jannik now, so in the centre-back position we are not super strong with the numbers, but the rest of the squad seems to be quite balanced."
