Arteta expects ‘a new Aubameyang’ for the next season

Winning the Premier League golden boot in his first full season with Arsenal, the former Borussia Dortmund striker has been prolific for the Gunners since arriving in January 2018.

However, many pundits have suggested that Aubameyang’s

shocking 2020-21 season was a sign that his prime has ended. Turning 32 at the end of 2020-21, his 13 goal involvement was his fewest tally in a single England campaign with Arsenal, including 2017-18 when he joined in January and tallied 10 goals and four assists.

and it was put to manager Arteta on Thursday that this could be the start of an extended slump.

No matter what, his Arsenal boss is optimistic ‘the 2020-21 season was a 'one-off' for Aubameyang’.

"I don't know – last season and everything that happened individually, collectively around the club for everybody, it was difficult to measure if that's a trend or a one-off," Arteta said ahead of Arsenal's opening game against newly-promoted Brentford on Friday.

"Our job is to help the players get the best that they have, and we know that with [Aubameyang] we are stronger.

"He scores goals and that's one of the most important things in this game."

On top of Mikel Arteta’s transfer wish list is

Sheffield United keeper Aaron Ramsdale

. Despite many ongoing negotiations, the Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic insisted yesterday: "I don't have any intention to sell him.

"He will be in my starting 11 for the next game.

"He is a very good keeper and I am really happy working with him. He's a really expensive keeper too."
