Spain aim for the gold medal - Dani Olmo
Spain vanquished the Ivory Coast 5-2 in an exciting match and made their way through the semi-final of the Olympic Games.
The clash ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, but La Roja found the target three times in the extra-time to show off their quality and win the battle.
The Ivory Coast scored the opener and took the lead early doors with Eric Bailly’s strike.
Dani Olmo
then went on to pull the game level, only for Max Gradel to help his side take the lead back.
However,
Rafa Mir
saved the day with a second equalizer two minutes later. Mikel Oyarzabal then netted a penalty in extra-time before Mir completed a hat-trick and secured
Spain’s victory.
Spain will go against Japan in the next round on Tuesday.
“
I’m happy on an individual level for the goal and for helping the team,”
Olmo said post-match in comments carried by
Marca.
“That’s our game, our philosophy. Having the ball, forcing the opponent to run more kilometres than normal.
“Then, in the last minutes, they were tired and we had more space. [The gold medal] has been the goal since we arrived and we want it more than anyone else. This hasn’t ended here.”
