‘PSG will be out for revenge’, says Mauro Icardi ahead of Lille clash

Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi has said his side are looking for revenge when they face Ligue 1 defending champions Lille in the Trophee des Champions.

Paris Saint-Germain

, the winner of the last French Cup, will face Ligue 1 champions

Lille

in Sunday’s Trophee des Champions clash.

After an uneven start to their season that saw PSG sack manager

Thomas Tuchel

and replace him with ex-Tottenham boss

Mauricio Pochettino

, but the Argentinean could not land the league title and they finished as runners-up to Lille.

However,

Mauro Icardi

believes PSG will turn things around in Pochettino’s first full season at the helm, and they will have a strong start against Lille.

"We will be out for revenge," Icardi said to the club's media on Thursday.

"If we start the season by winning a title, we can start the league the following week in the best possible way."

"It's true that we didn't have a good start to the league last year, with the Champions League final, the early return to the competition and the lack of preparation. It was a bit difficult. We lost points from the start and we paid the price afterwards."

The 28-year-old has won Trophee des Champions against

Marseille

in January having scored the opening goal of the game.

"It's true that it's a good memory,"

Icardi added.

"I scored a goal and I was voted best player of the match. But the most important thing is that we won the title.
