Barcelona

confirmed the release of midfielder

Matheus Fernandes

.

The 22-year-old only got to play 17 minutes of first-team football for the club.

Although his contract expires in the summer of 2025, they decided to mutually terminate it and he has now become a free agent.

The Brazilian moved from Palmeiras on a €7 million deal last year and was immediately sent to Real Valladolid on a loan, where he was only able to make three appearances.

His only performance for Barcelona was in a Champions League qualifier at Dynamo Kiev and he has not played at all since then.

The central midfielder joined Palmeiras from Botafogo on a €3.5 million deal in 2019, however, he could not help his club to prevent them from their first-ever relegation from the top division in his sole season.

Fernandes featured in a total of 31 matchday squads, which were enlarged to 23 players because of the pandemic, however, he was only used once.
