La Liga boss: 'Rules are all necessary, I'm not against Barcelona'

Despite allegations that there is a plan in the aftermath of the Super League fiasco, La Liga chairman Javier Tebas maintains he is "not against Barcelona."

Barcelona was one of the clubs that signed up for the disreputable

Super League

during their economic meltdown, which has left the club with more than €1 billion in debt and 40 percent above the salary ceiling in

La Liga

The latter problem means they can only spend 25% of their earnings until they balance their accounts, which La Liga enforced on teams who exceed the quota.

And, as one of the teams that league authorities have chastised, there have been suggestions that Barca may suffer as a result of their conduct.

"They (the rules) are all necessary, here it appears forgotten. I am not against Barcelona; I am defending the rest," Tebas told

Onda Cero

.

"It hurts to speak of a Super League that can take on Spanish and European football."

He added: "The position of Barca has surprised me. Their economic situation explains why they would like to climb aboard the Super League.

"Barcelona are in a situation of losing €320million, half of what all the teams in La Liga lost.

"They can only sign for 25% of what they bring in from the exits of players."

However, Primera Division president Tebas has stated that this is not the case. He is working in the league's best interests by limiting the Catalans amid their financial difficulties.

This restriction implies Barcelona will be severely limited in the summer transfer market, especially considering the likelihood of a new deal for

Lionel Messi

Free transfers like

Eric Garcia

,

Sergio Aguero

, and

Memphis Depay

have already helped cushion the impact ahead of next season.
