Switzerland's manager Vladimir Petkovic started the game with a few changes in his side’s lineup. Silvan Widmer started the match ahead of Kevin Mbabu on the right side of Switzerland’s midfield, while Ricardo Rodriguez was moved to the back three to help out with the defense.

Switzerland took the lead only six minutes after the kick-off, where

’s pass with a precise shot from the edge of the box. Turkey increased the pressure on Switzerland’s defense and got their first chance in the 16th minute, where Mert Muldur’s strike was stopped by Yann Sommer’s spectacular save.

Turkey seemed to be close to getting their equalizer as they managed to gain possession, but they were stunned by Switzerland’s second goal. Steven Zuber provided his second assist of the match for

Xherdan Shaqiri

, who curled the ball past Ugurcan Cakir with a spectacular shot from outside the box. Switzerland tried to improve their overall goal difference by scoring more goals in the first half, but they were not able to get past Turkey’s defense.

After a few half-chances at the beginning of the second period, the pace of the game dropped significantly. However, Senol Gunes’ side continued their attacks and got their first goal of the tournament just after the hour mark.

Irfan Kahveci

got the ball outside of Switzerland’s box and unleashed a cracking shot into the top left corner of the net.

Turkey’s hopes for a comeback were soon extinguished by Switzerland’s swift counter-attack in the 68th minute, which saw Shaqiri score his second goal of the game with a first-time shot into the roof of the net. By providing Shaqiri with his third assist of the day, Steven Zuber became the third player to register three assists in a single match at the Euros after Michael Laudrup and Rui Costa. Switzerland tested Turkey’s backline a few more times before the final whistle, but they were denied by Cakir’s saves.

Switzerland moved to third place on Group A’s final standings behind

Wales

on goal difference. Petkovic’s side must wait for other groups’ results to see if they can qualify as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Italy

and Wales are qualified for the round of 16, while Turkey are eliminated from the summer tournament.
