Bayern Munich chairman Rummenigge resigns early
The Bayern Munich chairman is resigning his post six months earlier than expected.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
was supposed to depart the
Bundesligachampions when 2021 ended; however, he decided to leave earlier on June 30.
Oliver Kahn
, the former
Bayerngoalkeeper, will be his successor. Rummenigge has spent 30 years on Bayern’s board.
The 65-year-old requested for his departure to happen earlier in order to prevent a 2021-22 campaign being led by two leaders.
"
A hugely successful era is coming to an end at FC Bayern,"
a club statement said.
"At his own request and in close consultation with president and supervisory board chairman Herbert Hainer and the supervisory board, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will retire from his position as CEO of FC Bayern München AG with effect from 30 June 2021."
Rummenigge featured for Bayern for a decade and played in 95 matches, contributing to the European Championship victory in 1980.
He is the trio’s last member to go out the exit door, with the others being Beckenbauer and Uli Hoeness.

Strategically it is the most logical time to do it,"
Rummenigge said.
"It is the end of the fiscal year and the start of a new coaching team.
"It is a departure filled with satisfaction and pride that I hand over the club that is intact on a sporting level as well as financially and structurally."
Rummenigge has had great success with Bayern as they have grabbed 14 titles from the possible 19 since 2002.
They have also grabbed the league titles nine times in a row after winning the Bundesliga crown this season.
