Guardiola compares his Barcelona side to Arrigo Sacchi’s Milan

The Manchester City boss believes his famous Barcelona side benefited from having some of the best players of their era.

Pep Guardiola

added another Premier League title to his cabinet this season, taking his trophy tally to 31. The Spanish coach is famous for his contribution to

Barcelona

both as a player and a coach. However, the former Blaugrana boss also played for

Brescia

and

Roma

between 2001 and 2003. In an interview with

Christian Vieri

’s twitch show

Bobo TV

, Guardiola spoke about his time in the Italian top-flight.

“When I arrived in Brescia I was staying in a hideous hotel, but I felt like a star. I met Mazzone and he told me: ‘Look Pep, I didn’t want you here. We bought Federico Giunti and we must decide how we can play.’

“He was like a father to me, it’s a pity we couldn’t achieve more with Roberto Baggio in the team. He was so smart, always in the right place.”

Pep Guardiola won a historic treble with Barcelona in 2009. When asked about his remarkable achievement at Camp Nou, the Spaniard responded:

“Xavi and Iniesta were incredible. They knew exactly what to do. Sometimes you need more than two touches. Sometimes you need five or six, it depends on the moment. That’s why Barcelona won so many trophies, the players were special like those of Sacchi’s Milan.”

Guardiola couldn’t resist talking about

Lionel Messi

, who was a crucial player for Barcelona in their road to the treble.

“He is the best one, his mentality is incredible. He’s never lost a game in training and if he lost it, he would leave the training session. There are only four or five players in history like him. He can play everywhere and his mentality is incredible.

“I thought he should play as a False 9, because on the flank, he would spend 20 minutes without touching the ball. And the best player must get the ball as many times as possible. Before the game against Real Madrid, I decided to play him in that position.”

Guardiola has experienced coaching in Spain, England, and Germany. Asked whether he would be interested in coaching a Serie A side, the 50-year-old responded:

“At the beginning, I was struggling at City and Bayern Munich. At Barcelona, we never put crosses in the box, but at Bayern Munich, I had Ribery, Robben, Lewandowski and Muller, I had to use the crosses and I will do the same when I come to Italy,"

Guardiola said.

The Spanish coach has the chance to win his third Champions League title as a manager. Manchester City will face

Chelsea

in the Champions League final on May 29.
