Lopetegui hails title-contending Sevilla

Thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri’s 67th-minute strike, a 1-0 victory over Valencia at the Sanchez-Pizjuan gave Sevilla the power to put extra pressure on the top three in the final weeks of the league.

With Barcelona drawing with Levante, Lopetegui’s men are only two points from the second-placed Barcelona and one point behind Real Madrid while the Los Blancos still have to play Granada this midweek.

Lopetegui told his post-match conference: “It’s a positive assessment of a complicated game against a good team that knows it’s safe, full of good footballers.

“They were quite dangerous and made us work, we didn’t want to take shortcuts and knew to wait for our movement through patience and circulation.”

With 74 points, Sevilla have equaled their best ever tally of wins back in 2015. However, Lopetegui insists that won’t impress him.

“I’m not a person who gives much importance [to records],” Lopetegui said. “Only to the objectives of the season, which is now to recover well and put in a good performance next Sunday against the finalist of the Europa League, a spectacular team.”
