Barkley ready for Chelsea return as Villa’s not interested

Dean Smith revealed that Aston Villa are not considering making the midfielder’s loan transfer permanent.

Although the former Everton midfielder started his career at Villa in style, he has struggled for consistency throughout the 2020-21 campaign.

Asked if an extended stay for Barkley is on the table, Dean Smith answered: "No, Ross Barkley came in on loan at the start of the season.

"Obviously, Frank Lampard was the manager at the time we brokered a deal to bring him in on loan.

"He’s got another two years left on his contract at Chelsea and that’s not been discussed at all."

Making his debut with a goal in their remarkable 7-2 victory over Liverpool, Barkley has only scored three goals for the Lions.
