Guendouzi on his Arsenal return & the claims of him being a ‘bad boy'

The Frenchman insists that his time with the Gunners is far from over following his loan move to Herta Berlin as he refused to be looked at as a ‘bad boy’ figure.

Matteo Guendouzi

admitted that he still hopes for a return to

Arsenal

after being loaned to

Hertha Berlin

in the 2020-21 season as he denied the accusations of him being a

“bad boy”

.

The Frenchman, who fell out the pecking order under Mikel Arteta, believes his career at the Emirates Stadium is far from over and he could still be honored with a return to the Gunners in the final year of his contract with the

Premier League

side.

Talking about his future in interview with

France Football

, he said:

“I am focused on my season at Hertha Berlin. Then, we will make a point with my entourage and the people of the club to ask and discuss the future.”

“I am still an Arsenal player. This summer will be a decisive deadline.”

“I belong to Arsenal for another year. I am here [at Hertha] to improve.”

“From the moment that I am playing for Arsenal, I will give everything for this club, for the fans, for the team, for the staff. I will work hard for the shirt as I have always done.”

Guendouzi joined Arsenal in 2018 coming from

Lorient

and made his first Gunners appearance against

Manchester City

.

During his time at Emirates Stadium, the 21-year-old was able to make a total of 82 appearances before getting caught in a word exchange with

Brighton

’s

Neal Maupay

in his final game on June 20, 2020.

Following his exit, Guendouzi was replaced by former

Atletico Madrid

’s player,

Thomas Partey

, and some believe the main cause of his departure was that he was difficult to manage.

Guendouzi, who believes he has been wrongly accused of being a

"bad boy"

, added:

“I’m not a bad boy, quite the contrary.”

“If you want to succeed, you have to have a very good character, but also this personality to always want to be the best, always to want to win, to progress. It will differentiate you.”

“There are a lot of very good players. Excellent people have failed to turn pro and, for these cases, the mentality has a very large part of the responsibility.”

“My character and my personality have allowed me to do great things. It will still help me to go to the highest level.”
