Mendy plays down Zidane exit rumors amid recent criticism

The Los Blancos player insists that the team is paying no attention to the recent criticism aimed at their boss since the Whites will support “Zidane to the death”.

Real Madrid

left-back,

Ferland Mendy

, admits that no attention is being paid to criticism received by Los Blancos manager, Zinedine Zidane, despite the team suffering from a series of misfortunes throughout the 2020-21 campaign.

Asked about the chances of Zidane’s departure amid recent criticism, Mendy told

Marca

:

“I don't read much, to be honest. I'm with Zidane to the death and we're all with him, truly.”

“He seems relaxed. But we don't really take notice of what people are saying.”

Adding about their duties as team, the Frenchman said:

“To be honest, it has surprised me. I didn't think it was going to be so demanding.”

“I knew that you always had to win, but the criticism... Although sometimes I don't understand what they're saying, there's always a tonne when there's a defeat.”

“If you lose, they exaggerate, and that's shocked me, to be honest.”

Though Real Madrid are still in the competition for the

La Liga

title after missing their chances to earn the Super Cup and Copa del Rey titles, their struggles with inconsistency has starited to place a lot of pressure on their shoulders.

So far the Whites have four defeats out of their 24 La Liga games with one game more game played than the table leaders,

Atletico Madrid

, as they prepare for their Wednesday Champions League clash with

Atalanta

.
