“Don’t worry Sancho, happens to the best of us" - Barton backs Sancho

The England international appeared to be trying to learn German pronunciation following Borussia Dortmund’s derby win over Schalke.

Jadon Sancho

was backed by

Joey Barton

after the

Borussia Dortmund

winger seemed to have changed his accent during an interview held after his side’s victory over

Schalke

on Saturday.

The 20-year-old has scored a goal and contributed an assist during his side’s

Bundesliga

derby battle against Schalke.

Sancho was delighted with the result as he heard the final whistle; however, he was subjected to many jokes after he tried to speak with a German accent during an interview with the reporters.

I know for this club that this game is everything

," he said.

“So, I knew today that was a big one for the fans

.

Especially because they can’t celebrate it with us, I had to show to the camera that it was very important to us.

“I’m just very happy and delighted for the win. We just have to carry on this form for the next game.”

The former Fleetwood boss Barton, who has had a similar experience back when he was on a loan spell at Marseille in 2012, took it to his Twitter account to back Sancho, saying: "

Don’t worry Sancho. Happens to the best of us

..."

The duo are not the only players who have tried various pronunciations in public.

Steve McClaren was the one who initiated the trend, speaking in a Dutch accent in an interview for which he was derided by fans. David Moyes, former Manchester United boss, has also fallen into the same trap when he was with Real Sociedad.

Although not as good as the 2019-20 season, Sancho has pushed to get to a richer vein of form since 2021.

The England international, who had caught the attention of

Manchester United

last summer, has found the target ten times and provided 15 assists in 29 games for his side this season, making a name for himself as one of Europe’s best young players.

Dortmund are set to face Arminia in Bundesliga on Saturday.
