fans have taken to social media in anger after hearing that the Gunners’ appeal against

David Luiz

’s red card against

Wolves

was rejected.

The veteran center-back was dismissed shortly before the break at Molineux with the VAR upholding the decision of referee

Craig Pawson

, who judged David Luiz had made contact with the heel of Willian Jose.

Arsenal confirmed on Thursday that the Football Association has upheld the on-field decision, meaning that Luiz remains unavailable for Gunner’s Saturday’s match against

Aston Villa

in the Premier League.

The FA confirmed that the appeal from Southampton to see Jan Bednarek's dismissal against Manchester United overturned was successful. This sparked a reaction amongst Arsenal supporters on social media as they could not understand the decisions.

Arsenal's response to the decision was slightly more diplomatic.

“We have worked really hard to overturn David Luiz's red card,”

a club statement read

. “We presented our case to the FA but are disappointed that our appeal has been unsuccessful.

“We accept the FA's decision and continue our preparations for Saturday's match against Aston Villa.”
