Official: Davies joins Liverpool for £1.6 million

In the absence of injured Liverpool defenders, Davies will cover the team's defense.

Liverpool finalized the purchase of Ben Davies from Preston for £1.6 million.

Following the injury of

defenders this season, the club was looking to sign a defender in the winter transfer window. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez will not be able to play until the end of the season due to injuries, and Matip will be out for a few weeks.

Therefore, Jürgen Klopp considered it necessary to buy a defender for his team, and on the last day of the winter transfer window, he finally hired the 25-year-old Preston defender. The Reds will pay Preston half a million for the transfer and the rest will be paid depending on Davies' performance.

Davies underwent medical tests today and is expected to start training with his new teammates tomorrow.

Kabak is expected to join Liverpool on loan from Schalke, and his contract will include a 18 18million buy-out clause.

The defender said:

“I’m obviously delighted to be here. It’s a huge opportunity.

"Obviously it came as a bit of a surprise when it first came but once you start to get your head around it, the opportunity that is in front of me is incredible. I’d be silly to not make the most of it and learn off the players.

“I’ve never actually been to Anfield and I haven’t had a look around yet. I had a quick look out and had a look at the pitch and it looks like carpet, which obviously you’d expect.

“I haven’t actually walked out of the tunnel yet, so I’m looking forward to that. Just to be in this kind of atmosphere is brilliant.”
