EFL changes Carabao Cup’s final date because of the pandemic

As London is under lockdown, the EFL has pushed the Cup’s final from February 28, 2021, to April 25, 2021, as they hope a new Wembley Stadium date will enable supporters to make the trip.

This week the competition’s quarter-final matches will be played as the last year’s champions,

Manchester City

, will face struggling

Arsenal

on Tuesday as

Brentford

will host

Newcastle United

the same day earlier.

Tottenham

will play

Stoke City

and

Manchester United

face

Everton

at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Although some stadiums are able to host fans, fans are restricted to attend London stadiums as the city is in Tier 4 of the restrictions. The

EFL

hopes a new Carabao Cup’s final date would allow fans to attend the match.

"The number of fans permitted will be dependent on government guidance in place at the time and it is hoped that moving the date to later in the year will give clubs and their fans the best opportunity to attend in person."
