Gerrard: ‘The challenge and the aim is to go all the way’

Rangers coasted into the quarter-finals with their 4-0 against Falkirk.

By winning 4-0 against

Falkirk

,

Rangers

coasted into the quarter-finals. Now Rangers have the best shot to win the trophy as

Celtic

lost 0-2 to Ross County.

Jermain Defoe scored the opening after only six minutes. Then it was followed by Calvin Ughelumba and Borna Barisic scoring one goal each in the first half. In the second half James Tavernier scored the fourth goal in the 51st minute.

"Falkirk are in a good place, I think they'll go on and compete for the league so the environment and where they were at, it was always going to be a tricky tie,” Rangers coach

Steven Gerrard

said.

"But I thought the lads showed great professionalism, their application was spot on and we got what we deserved.

"JD, typical JD. Fantastic movement on the shoulder, terrific finish with the left foot and it was a moment of class to get us up and running.

"Second one, a set-piece, fantastic header by Cedric, and then Calvin follows in for his first goal, he's delighted.

"Then the third one is obviously a moment of genius by Borna, that technique is very difficult to get up and down but he's proven he's done it before so hopefully there's many more of them to come.

"And then James shows what place he's in. He leads by example and he goes and finishes the game off with a terrific volley.

"Strong performance all round, good goals and we managed to get a few debuts in there as well.”

Also when Gerrard was asked whether Betfred Cup is an even bigger opportunity after the Parched club’s exit, he answered:

“We focus on the next round.

“Our challenge is to get the boys recovered and ready for Europe in midweek and we're really looking forward to the next round in this cup.

"The challenge and the aim is to go all the way.

"Doesn't matter who is in the competition, who has been knocked out. It's about Rangers trying to compete for silverware year in, year out.

"That's what it's about."
