Hugo Loris defends under fire Paul Pogba

Hugo Loris has voiced his support for French midfielder Paul Pogba, claiming that the Manchester United midfielder always knows how to raise his level.

Pogba has come under fire for his performance in the 2020-21 season. The 27-year-old has scored just one goal in 11 games in all competitions for Manchester United and no longer has a permanent place in the starting line-up of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He had just eight minutes to play in last week's 1-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park and had previously conceded a penalty in the 0-1 defeat to Arsenal.

"He lacks a bit of rhythm, compared to his situation at his club. Like [Raphael] Varane or [Antoine] Griezmann, he comes with a smile," the Spurs captain told a press conference ahead of Les Bleus' UEFA Nations League clash with Portugal on Saturday night.

"We see him ready to meet the challenges, the jersey of Les Bleus is close to his heart.

"He is one of the leaders of this team. He has a long history [with the national team] and also knows how to raise his level when necessary, especially when there is adversity.

"Tomorrow (Saturday), he will be keen to do well."

France must beat Portugal to reach the top of Group A of League A, and for now, they only differ in terms of goal difference.
