Euro 2020: Ukraine vs Austria match preview- team news, lineups

Monday is here and Ukraine will face Austria for sure! but which team is going to win? that's the question we are going to answer in Sportmob.

Euro 2020 is here and we are all excited about the matches! This time in Sportmob we are going to analyze a match in group C, Ukraine vs

Austria

. Both sides of this game are tied on three points after overcoming North Macedonia and losing to the Netherlands in their first two matches, thus a draw would very definitely see both teams advance to the knockout rounds. Before we start to analayze the game, let's take a look at both teams histoey.

Ukraine has quite a history when it comes to Eurogames. Their national team is viewed as an example of a successful young football team in both Europe and the globe but they fail to offer the same flavor at the senior level. Ukraine qualified automatically for Euro 2012 as co-hosts. they defeated Sweden in a 2–1 win in their first game in Kyiv. However, despite their efforts, Ukraine was eliminated following a 0–2 defeat to France and a 0–1 loss to England in Donetsk.

in the Euro 2016 qualifying round, Ukraine was drawn against

Spain

, Slovakia, Belarus, Macedonia, and Luxembourg. The Zbirna were anticipated to place second in their group behind Spain, but despite winning all of their other matches, they ended third owing to bad performances against Spain and Slovakia.

Austria has competed in three UEFA European Championships: Euro 2008, Euro 2016, and the current competition in 2020. They qualified automatically for UEFA Euro 2008 as a host nation, marking their first appearance in the competition. they had a theoretical opportunity to continue to the second round despite losing their first game and drawing the second but were eliminated following a 0–1 loss to Germany. Austria qualified for Euro 2016 too and of course, they are in UEFA Euro 2020! Austria is right above Ukraine in FIFA's ranking list so we are going to watch a challenging game.

Ukraine vs Austria, the match preview

As we mentioned earlier, the game is going to be a tough one! not only because of the team's same rank but the situation they are in. Ukraine had a 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands and a 2-1 against North Macedonia which gives them three-point in total! However, they still have one more goal than their opponent, Austria which means a draw would ensure Ukraine's passage to the last 16 in the second position but it all depends to be seen whether Ukraine lines up its team more cautiously than we have seen so far or not!

As for Austria, playing for a draw would be a riskier approach since it would imply expecting to be one of the four best third-placed teams in order to advance to the next round. However, considering that one or two third-placed teams from other groups are expected to have just three points, it is difficult to say that  Austria won't advance to the next round. without further ado, let's get into the analysis.

Form analysis

This part of the article is dedicated to analyzing both teams in terms of tactical history; so, without further ado let's start this part.

Ukraine

Over the last year or two, Shevchenko's performances haven't always been that good to consider him as a perfect manager. While his team's positive performance against Kazakhstan resulted in a 1-1 draw, the same outcome occurred only one match earlier against Finland in a game in which they were continually backpedaling vs Pukki and co.

The manager has used several formations with varying degrees of success. On the other hand, the squad needs to work on its unity! of course, some of the European best players are on the team but without unity and consistency, it would be hard to win any game.

Austria

The Austrian lineup has numerous skilled and experienced players, like Marcel Sabitzer, David Alaba, Julian Baumgartlinger, and Marko Arnautovi. these players will be crucial in determining what Austria can achieve at this event. Austria has also several excellent young players in the team who are poised to make an impact on Austria's history.

The UEFA Nations League campaign gave some opportunity to head coach Franco Foda to experiment with his team a little.  All of this demonstrates how far Austria has come in the previous few years, and they will undoubtedly regard this tournament as one in which they can make an impression.

Ukraine vs Austria– head-to-head in all matches

In terms of head-to-head records, Ukraine and Austria are tied, having won one game each in a total of two matches played between the two sides. The previous encounter between the two teams took place in 2012 when Austria won in a 3-2 game. However, Ukraine has made significant progress in recent years and has a lot to prove in this encounter.

Lineups and formation

As you already know, knowing the formation of each team will help us to predict the game even better. Although we don't know the exact formation of each team we can have a guess based on their previous matches.

Ukraine

Ukraine will most likely use a

4-3-3 formation

for this game, which means they will have four defenders to protect their goal, three midfielders to balance the attack and defense, and three forwards to constantly attack the opponent. Using this formation will allow Ukraine to keep their points secure while trying for scoring another one. We predict that players below will play in this match.

  • GK: Heorhiy Bushchan

  • CB: Illia Zabarnyi

  • CB: Mykola Matviyenko

  • LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko

  • RB: Oleksandr Karavaev

  • DM: Taras Stepanenko

  • CM: Ruslan Malinovskyi

  • CM: Mykola Shaparenko

  • LW: Marlos Romero

  • RW: Andriy Yarmolenko

  • ST: Roman Yaremchuk

Austria

The

4-2-3-1 formation

was most commonly used by Austria, especially during critical matches, since it allowed the club to maintain a balance between defense and offense. with such a formation, they will dominate the field while keeping their goal safe which is the whole point of this match. The players who will probably play in this match are listed below.

  • GK: Daniel Bachmann

  • CB: Aleksandar Dragovic

  • CB: Martin Hinteregger

  • LB: Andreas Ulmer

  • RB: Stefan Lainer

  • DM: Julian Baumgartlinger

  • CM: Florian Grillitsch

  • AM: Marcel Sabitzer

  • LW: David Alaba

  • RW: Valentino Lazaro

  • ST: Marko Arnautovic

Prediction

based on the formation of both teams, their history, and their rank on the FIFA ranking list, we will most probably watch a match that will result in a draw. However, Football is a game of change! even in the last seconds.
