Top 10 Premier League Goal Scorers of 2020

Premier League just ended a week ago with Liverpool crowned as champions for the first time since the formation of the major English league. With that in mind, you might guess that the Premier League top scorer in 2020 should be from Liverpool. Wrong! And we are going to let you know who is!

But Just don’t blame yourself for that! Everyone might think that the

2020 EPL top scorer

should probably be from the league leader, Liverpool. As we already said, that’s not the case with this season of the Premier League.

Jamie Vardy of Leicester City is the Premier League top scorer in 2020 with 23 goals and the nearest top scorer to him from Liverpool is Mohamed Salah with 19 goals - he actually ranks fourth on the list of Premier League top scorers 2020.

The List of Premier League Top Scorers 2020

The list of Premier League Top Scorers 2020 actually comprises of 17 players. You might ask why and our answer is that some players share their position on the list with each other. Here comes the list of Highest Goal Scorers in EPL 2020!

Jamie Vardy (23 Goals - 1st)

The Premier League top scorer in 2020

, Jamie Vardy is from England and as already mentioned he plays for Leicester City as a striker. Vardy also won this season’s EPL Golden Boot award with the 23 goals he scored throughout the season.

He’s not only the oldest top scorer in this season of the Premier League but also the oldest top scorer ever in the Premier League history.

Vardy

actually broke the record of the Ivorian forward, Didier Drogba, who scored 29 goals in the Premier League 2009-10 season at the age of 32 both in terms of the number of goals and the age at which goals were scored.

The 33-year-old English striker has served Leicester City since 2012 and has scored 123 league goals in his 274 appearances for them - almost one goals in every two appearances. And he also won the Premier League title with The Foxes in 2015-16 season which was actually the club’s first EPL title ever won.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (22 Goals - 2nd)

The second Premier League top scorer in 2020 jointly with

Danny Ings

of Southampton, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is actually a Gabonese striker who has served Arsenal since 2018 scoring 54 goals in his 85 appearances for them (a little bit more than 2 goals in every 3 appearances).

Aubameyang scored his first goal this season against

Newcastle United

in a match that ended in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory - on August 11, 2019. He was also named the Premier League Player of the Month in September 2019 for the 5 goals he scored against Tottehnam, Manchester United, and Aston Villa surpassing those of Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 31-year-old Gabonese striker is also the first Arsenal player to have reached the threshold of 50 goals in the least appearances possible (79) which is actually 4 appearances less than the 83 appearances Thierry Henry made before he reached the same threshold.

Danny Ings (22 Goals - 2nd)

Ings is also the second Premier League top scorer in 2020, as already mentioned, with 22 goals scored in this season, however, unlike Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he’s from England and plays for the Premier League club, Southampton.

Before joining

Southampton

, Ings served Liverpool for four years between 2015 and 2019 with his last season on loan to Southampton when he could score 7 goals in his 24 appearances for them (almost 1 goal in every three appearances).

And maybe it was his great performance at Southampton that made the club buy him for the next season (2019-20) for a transfer fee of €19.8 million.

And it was in this season actually that Ings shined for Southampton: He scored 22 goals in his 38 appearances for the Premier League club which translates to a little more than 2 goals in every 3 appearances.

Raheem Sterling (20 Goals - 3rd)

The third on the list of

EPL Highest Goal Scorers 2020

, Raheem Sterling is an English forward with Jamaican origin who has been serving Manchester City since 2015.

He has scored 68 league goals in his 164 appearances for the Sky Blues that translates to almost 5 goals in every 4 appearances - if he scored 6 more goals, then he would have scored exactly 5 goals in every 4 appearances.

`Sterling’s goalscoring record for Manchester City since he has joined the Premier League club is as follows: 20 goals in 2019-20 season, 17 goals in 2018-19 season, 18 goals in 2017-18 season, 7 goals in 2016-17 season, and 6 goals in 2015-16 season. As you see, the 25-year-old English winger has considerably advanced in regard to his goalscoring record from 2017 on.

And the fact that he’s not a forward actually adds to the value of the goals he has scored, since you know, a winger or midfielder has less goalscoring opportunities than a forward. We can say Sterling has shined with Man City if we just consider that he never scored more than 10 goals for Liverpool during a season.

Mohamed Salah (19 Goals - 4th)

Nicknamed the

Egyptian Messi

, Mohamed Salah is the fourth Premier League top scorer of 2020 and also the English major League top scorer in the previous season (2018-19) jointly with his teammate, Sadio Mane, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal with 22 goals.

As already mentioned in one of our previous posts -

Top 10 Arab Football Players of 2020

- Salah is a prolific goalscorer, and although he hasn’t ranked first on the list of EPL top scorers in 2020, he has scored lots of goals both at club level and for his country’s (Egypt) national team.

For Roma he has scored one goal in every two appearances and for Liverpool and Egypt’s national team 1.5 goals. He also scored 32 goals for Liverpool in 2017-18 season which was actually the most number of goals he had scored for a club in a single season. If he just scored that number of goals this season, he would be first on the list of Premier League Top Scorers 2020 by far.

Harry Kane (18 Goals - 5th)

The 5th position on the list of

Premier League Top Scorers 2020

is actually shared by Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Sadio Mane of Liverpool both with 18 goals, however, we have named Harry Kane first because he is a keener goalscorer than Sadio Mane: He has scored 3 league goals in every two matches for Tottenham Hotspur, while Mane has netted only 1 for Liverpool in every same number of matches.

The best goalscoring record Harry Kane has set during the past decade was in 2017-18 season when he scored 30 goals for Tottenham. He finished second in that season on the list of Premier League topscorers with just 2 goals behind Mohamed Salah who topped the list.

Harry Kane

is indeed a prolific goalscorer like Mohamed Salah and has scored 32 goals in his 45 appearances for England national team, too - again almost 3 goals in every two appearances just like what he has done for Tottenham Hotspur.

Sadio Mane (18 Goals - 5th)

As already Mentioned Sadio Mane shares his position with Harry Kane this season, however, although he has scored less goals than the 27-year-old English striker, he has set a record in the Premier League no one has ever broken: In a match against Aston Villa in 2015 which ended in Liverpool’s 6-1 victory, Mane scored a hat-trick in less than 3 minutes - exactly 176 seconds - which then turned to be the fastest hat-trick scored ever in the Premier League history.

As for Mane’s goalscoring record in the past seasons, he has finished atop the list of Premier League Top Scorers in 2018-19 season with 22 goals jointly with his teammate, Mohamed Salah, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal.

However, in just one season before (2017-18), he didn’t even come close with the 10 goals he scored for Liverpool - he was actually at the bottom of the list of topscorers that season.

Raul Jimenez (17 Goals - 6th)

Although it’s the first season Raul Jimenez has joined the Premier League club,

Wolverhampton Wonderers

, he’s finished among the highest goal scorers in EPL 2020, and he has finished 6th.

Quite a good start! In fact, before joining the Wolves Jimenez had never played in English football, so this is actually his first appearance in the English football too.

It is actually with the Wolves that Jimenez has shined if we just consider that he has scored almost one goal in every two appearances he has made for the Premier League team.

It’s as the 29-year-old Mexican forward only scored one goal in every four matches when he served in the Portuguese football and much less when he served the Spanish club, Atletico Madrid, in 2014-15 season - actually only one goal in his 21 appearances for the team.

Anthony Martial (17 Goals - 6th)

Serving Manchester United since 2015, Anthony Martial has made 145 appearances for the Premier League club so far scoring 51 goals for them in the process. It is actually Martial’s first appearance in the Premier League - he was in Ligue 1 of France before.

Despite being a newcomer, Anthony Martial scored

Manchester United Goal of the Season

in the same season he joined them (2015-16); he also received the Golden Boy award in 2015 which is an award given to the most impressive under-21 footballer during a calendar year in European football.

Martial has actually had the best goalscoring record in the current season with 17 goals; in the previous seasons, namely 2018-19, 2017-18, 2016-17, and 2015-16, he scored 10, 9, 4, and 11 goals for Manchester United, respectively.

So as you might have guessed that number of goals was not enough to get him on the list of top 10 scorers in previous seasons as he actually was not.

Marcus Rashford (17 Goals - 6th)

Another player from Manchester United among the

EPL top scorers 2020

, Marcus Rashford is even younger than his teammate, Anthony Martial, but he has only served Manchester United since he has been promoted to their senior team.

As for the number of appearances and goals scored for the Red Devils, Rashford hits somewhere around Anthony Martial with 44 goals in his 142 appearances.

Rashford

actually became the youngest English forward ever to have scored in his first senior appearance for the England national team with the goal he scored for the team in May 2016. The 22-year-old English forward was also the youngest player in Euro 2016 and played for his country’s national team in 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Rashford has scored 10 goals in his 38 appearances for the England national team which translates to a little bit more than 1 goal in every 4 appearances. And like Anthony Martial, it is his first season to appear on the list of Premier League Top 10 Scorers in 2020.

Sergio Aguero (16 Goals - 7th)

The top Argentinian goalscorer who had a better performance and more goals scored in previous seasons,

Sergio Aguero

has finished 7th on the list of Premier League top scorers this season with 16 goals.

We say he was better because he actually scored more goals and had a better position on the list of Premier League top scorers in previous seasons.

If we just take it to numbers, we should say that 32-year-old Argentinian forward finished second on the list of Premier League top scorers in 2018-19 season with 21 goals after Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane of Liverpool and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal each with 22 goals.

In 2017-18 season Aguero finished third by a wider margin and the same number of goals (21) after Harry Kane with 30 goals, and In 2016-17 season, he finished fourth with 20 goals while in 2015-16 season he finished second again with 24 goals jointly with Jamie Vardy of Leicester City.

Tammy Abraham (15 Goals - 8th)

The first and only player from Chelsea to appear on the list of Premier League Top 10 Scorers, Tammy Abraham has actually finished 8th on the list with 15 goals this season.

And in the previous seasons? He was not present on the list because either he was not playing in the Premier League or he didn’t score that number of league goals to be on the list.

However, in his first season playing for Chelsea - actually 2019-20 season, not only Abraham managed to score 15 goals for Chelsea throughout the season, but also he scored his first hat-trick for them in a game against Wolverhamtpon Wonderers that ended in Chelsea’s 5-2 win and by doing so, he became the youngest player ever in Chelsea’s history to have scored a hat-trick in a game for them.

Gabriel Jesus (14 Goals - 9th)

One of the young forwards on the list of

Premier League Top Scorers 2020

, Gabriel Jesus is 23 years old and from Brazil. He’s been serving Manchester City since 2017 and has scored 41 goals in his 102 appearances for them which translates to 4 goals in every 5 appearances.

He has also scored 18 goals in his 39 appearances for the Brazilian national team - almost 1 goal in every two appearances.

Gabriel Jesus also finished 9th on the list of Premier League top scorers in 2017-18 season but with 13 goals. In 2018-19 and 2016-17 seasons he didn’t shine since he just managed to score 7 goals in both seasons and never finished among the Premier League top scorers.

Chris Wood (14 Goals - 9th)

The only footballer from New Zealand among the

Premier League top scorers 2020

, Chris Wood has served a number of Premier League clubs during his career, but he has actually scored the most number of league goals in his career for two clubs: Leeds United and Burnley.

He has scored 41 league goals in his 83 appearances for Leeds United from 2015 to 2017 - almost one goal in every two appearances - and 34 goals in his 94 appearances for Burnley from 2017 to this date - a little bit more than one goal in every three appearances.

Chris Wood

is not at all a prolific goalscorer. He has scored only 10 goals in the past two seasons (2017-18 and 2018-19) and almost no goals in previous seasons to them.

Maybe luck was with him to have scored 14 goals this season and most importantly finish among the Premier League top scorers in 2020.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (13 Goals - 10th)

A product of Sheffield United who has been serving Everton since 2016,

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

is another young scorer among the Premier League top scorers in 2020. For Everton, Calvert-Lewin has scored 24 goals in his 114 appearances that actually translates to a little bit more than one goal in every 5 appearances. Not bad but we cannot call him a prolific goalscorer for sure.

And in the previous seasons, the 23-year-old English striker could not manage to even score 10 goals let alone being among the EPL top scorers.

However, the fact that he has scored twice as much as the previous season and three times more than the season before the previous season means that the young striker is growing and will probably continue to score the same number of goals as this season or even more in the seasons to come.

Richarlison (13 Goals - 10th)

Another striker from Everton who has finished among the Premier League top scorers 2020, Richarlison is from Brazil and 23 years old.

Compared to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison has been a better scorer for Everton despite joining the Premier League club two years after Calvert-Lewin, namely in 2018: He has scored 26 goals in his 76 appearances for Everton since that translates to a little bit more than one goal in every three appearances.

But in terms of the number of goals scored this season in the Premier League, the 23-year-old Brazilian striker is no better than his teammate, Calvert-Lewin.

However, his performance in the previous season was better than Calvert-Lewin as he scored the same number of goals (13) for Everton in that season and finished 7th jointly with five other players on the list of Premier League Top Scorers.

Kevin De Bruyne (13 goals - 10th)

Up to this point, all the footballers we have named, except for Raheem Sterling, have been either strikers or forwards; Kevin De Bruyne is actually the second footballer on the list of

Premier League Top Scorers in 2020

who doesn’t and hasn’t played as a forward. He’s actually a midfielder serving Manchester City since 2015.

If you ask us, finishing among the Premier League top scorers for a midfielder is quite an achievement, no matter what the rank. Just consider that the number of goals De Bruyne has scored equals those of Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin who are both strikers.

And if you know that the 29-year-old Belgian midfielder has scored a total of 36 goals for Manchester City since he has joined them in 2015 and more than one third of these goals (13) have been scored this season, you’ll surely admit that he has been on a goalscoring spree this season! Will he continue to be as good as that? You tell us!

And What About the Rest of the List?

The list of the Premier League Top Scorers in 2020 continues as below with players scoring 11 and less goals:

  • 11th, 11 Goals

, Riyad Mahrez, Teemu Pukki, Son Heung-Min

  • 12th, 10 Goals

, Michail Antonio, Troy Deeney, Mason Greenwood, Alexandre Lacazette, Neal Maupay

  • 13th, 9 Goals

, Jordan Ayew, Roberto Firmino, Willian, Christian Pulisic

  • 14th, 8 Goals

, Dele Ali, Bruno Fernandes, Olivier Giroud, Jack Geralish, Ayoze Perez, Jay Rodriguez, Callum Wilson

  • 15th, 7 Goals

, Sebastian Haller, Mason Mount, Diogo Jota, Harry Wilson

  • 16th, 6 Goals

, Harvey Barnes, Ashely Barnes, Todd Cantwell, Trezeguet, Joshua King, James Maddison, Oliver McBurnie, Lys Mousset, Jonjo Shelvey, David Silva, Bernardo Silva
