Eriksen’s thrive at United did not surprise Carrick

Michael Carrick was delighted to see that Manchester United penned a contract with Christian Eriksen and the player has not disappointed them.

Christian Eriksen

has established himself as a key player under the reign of

Erik ten Hag

at

Manchester United

and his fast emergence has not surprised

Michael Carrick

, the former United midfielder.

The Denmark international made a move to United as a free agent after playing for

Brentford

in the second half of the previous season. Although United’s plan to fit the Denmark international into the squad was unclear at the beginning given Bruno Fernandes’ importance, Ten Hag’s failure to bring in Frenkie de Jong made it possible for him. Eriksen has played deeper than Fernandes and United benefited from the duo’s creativity in midfield.

In their thumping 3-1 victory over Arsenal, it was totally visible as Eriksen’s passes to Fernandes proved essential in building up two of their goals.

"I'm not surprised one bit,"

Carrick told United's official website.

"I played against him a lot; I've watched him a lot. I like him a lot. He's a fantastic footballer. He's clever, he's smart.

"It almost doesn't matter what position he plays; he can adapt. He's just a clever, intelligent footballer with great quality.

"I was pleased when we signed him, and he's not surprised me one bit. He's a top player."

Eriksen was able to grab the award for Player of the Month in September and he is now shining for his national team. He met the back of the net in their 2-1 loss at the hands of Croatia before performing amazingly in their 2-0 victory over France.
