Bellingham criticizes referee after Dortmund’s defeat to Bayern Munich

Sat 04 December 2021 | 23:12

Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham aimed a furious attack on referee Felix Zwayer following his side’s 3-2 defeat against Bayern Munich, accusing the match official of being involved in a past match-fixing scandal.

Dortmund

were beaten 3-2 at the Signal Iduna Park after

R

obert Lewandowski

's equalizer canceled out

Julian Brandt

's opener.

Kingsley Coman

then made it 2-1 shortly before half-time before

Haaland

responded with a spectacular finish.

However, Dortmund fell to defeat after

Mats Hummels

' adjudged handball meant the away side were awarded a penalty, which Lewandowski dispatched to give

Bayern Munich

the win.

The penalty looked controversial and Dortmund strongly disagreed, with manager

Marco Rose

sent off as a result of his protests and after the game, youngster

Bellingham

couldn't hide his frustrations.

"For me it wasn't [a penalty],"

Bellingham

claimed after the final whistle

.

"[Mats] Hummels isn't even looking at the ball, he's fighting to get it and it just sort of hits him, it hits him and I don't even think he's looking at the ball.

"You can look at a lot of the decisions in the game, you give a referee that has match-fixed before the biggest game in Germany, what do you expect?"

Erling Haaland

, who brought the game back to 2-2 shortly after half-time prior to Lewandowski's winner, was equally outraged by the performance of the match official.

"I think it was a scandal when it comes to the refereeing," t

he Norwegian fired, while also expressing his anger at seeing a penalty appeal for

Marco Reus

dismissed.

"He was arrogant, and I will say no more."
