Fernandes explains why he passed the penalty to Ronaldo

Ronaldo brought three points to his team with two goals he scored last night.

Manchester United

midfielder

Bruno Fernandes

has explained his reasons for allowing Cristiano Ronaldo to take a penalty against

Arsenal

.

United climbed to seventh place in last night's 3-2 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford, and Fernandes, who scored his side's first goal, had a chance to record a double. The Portuguese midfielder is happy that he has assigned one of his duties to his teammates and explained the reason for this.

Fernandes told

BBC Sport

:

"We didn't have a chat. I missed the last one so I trust him in the same way I trust myself. It was time for Cristiano to take the penalty because I took the last one and missed it. It doesn’t matter who gets on the penalty."

Asked about Ralf Rangnick appointment, Fernandes said:

"Now is a new beginning and a new start. Everyone is looking forward to work with the new coach. When someone new comes in there are new opportunities. Everyone has the chance to get a position.

"Everyone has to work hard to get the chance to be in the first XI. We will meet him tomorrow and start working on the next game."
