Norwich boss warns other clubs: January signing not a solution!

Extensive changes are expected in Newcastle after their acquisition by the Saudis.

Norwich

boss Dean Smith warned clubs in the relegation zone that they should not look for a way out in January.

The Canaries, who are ranked 19th in the table, will face

Newcastle United

at the bottom of the table on Tuesday night, and if they win, they can move away from this area of the table. The Saudi Investment Fund has acquired ownership of Newcastle, and the club is expected to make major changes in the winter transfer window following the appointment of Eddie Howe. Now Norwich boss have warned that winter signings could not stop clubs from falling.

"It is always difficult to think you can buy your way out of any position or into any position,"

said Smith.

"You bring players into a squad and first of all, they have to go and settle in, there is an integration that they have to go get settled into.

"Certainly if they are not British-based players or tasted the Premier League before, there is a newness about everything.

"The Premier League as we all know is a very talented league and every club gives you a challenge, so it is very difficult to buy a place in the top six or out of the bottom three."

Smith believes Newcastle will benefit from help that may not be available to other clubs.

"January has always been a difficult window for any team,"

he said.

"Prices are over-inflated - but that probably doesn't matter to

Newcastle

if they have the riches we are told they have got.

"They have got to have a good plan because although people are already talking about what they are going to do, they have six or seven games before that and will need to fire up the players who are already there."

"Myself and (assistant head coach) Craig Shakespeare have been very impressed with the balance to the squad and the quality as well,"

he added.

"It gives us that renewed belief that we can keep the club in the Premier League."
