Arteta decides on Arsenal’s penalty taker after Aubameyang miss

The Gunners boss confirms the Gabonese striker remains his side's first choice to take penalties.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed his second spot-kick in a row in Arsenal's

1-0 win

over Watford on Sunday. The 32-year-old had missed another penalty in Arsenal's 3-1 victory against Aston Villa on October 22.

However, Mikel Arteta insists he has no plans to change his side's main penalty taker.

"He will stay on penalties if he's happy to do so,"

Arteta said.

"It's part of your career and job to miss penalties and we will try to help him."

Many observers suggest it is time for the Gunners to trust Alexandre Lacazette to take the penalties. Having taken eight penalties, the French striker has never failed to convert a spot-kick at Arsenal. On the other hand, Aubameyang has taken 15 penalties, scoring ten and missing five.

However, the ability to convert the penalties might not be the only factor at work here. Lacazette is spending the last months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, with the 30-year-old expected to leave the club as a free agent in the summer. Giving Lacazette a new role might not fit with the club's plans regarding the Fiorentina-linked striker.
