Napoli pay tribute to Diego Maradona with a special fourth kit

The Argentine icon died on November 25 last year at the age of 60.

Napoli will celebrate the life of football legend Diego Maradona by wearing a special fourth kit in their upcoming games.

The celebratory shirt, named Maradona Game, will be worn in the Partenopei’s games against Verona (Sunday, November 7), Inter (November 21) and Lazio (November 28). It features a photo of Maradona superimposed over a large fingerprint, signifying the Argentine’s presence at the core of the club’s identity.

Maradona joined Napoli from Barcelona in 1984 and led them to their only Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990. The football legend also won a UEFA Cup and a Coppa Italia title during his time in Naples.

The Italian side, who renamed their stadium in tribute to the football legend last year, will sell 1926 shirts with the special design. The number refers to the year Napoli was founded.

Napoli have been waiting to win their third Scudetto for over three decades now. This year, Luciano Spalletti’s side have made a promising start to the season, leading the Serie A table with 31 points after ten weeks. It remains to be seen whether they can maintain consistency with their performances after the upcoming international break.
