Barcelona’s Pedri pays tribute to his departing boss Koeman

The Dutch tactician allowed many youngsters to have a chance at Barcelona and the starlet appreciated him.

as he gave him a chance to break into Camp Nou and the talented midfielder says he "will always be grateful" for the ex-

Barcelona

manager.

The Blaugrana have confirmed Koeman’s departure on Wednesday after their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Rayo Vallecano which has put them ninth on the La Liga table after 10 matches.

The Dutch tactician was at the helm for just 14 months after being Quique Setien’s successor in 2020 and he has led the club to a 58.21 per cent win in 67 games.

However, when it came to youngsters, the head coach was more successful, as Ronald Araujo, Oscar Mingueza and Pedri had breakthroughs last season. He also used the academy more this season when he gave Alejandro Balde, Gavi, Nico Gonzalez and Yusuf Demir opportunities.

Pedri has been the most impactful of them all and his impressive performance in the 2020-21 season saw him earn a call-up to the Spain squad for the Euro 2020, where he was in the starting XI of all his countries matches to the semi-finals.

The 18-year-old is thankful for the chance Koeman gave him.

"

I'm sorry things didn't turn out the way we wanted, mister,"

he posted on his personal

Instagram

account on Thursday.

"I will always be grateful to him for everything he has done for me: for giving me his trust from the first moment and for the opportunity to fulfil my dream at Barcelona.

"I wish you the best both personally and professionally."

During Koeman’s reign, Sergio Busquets was most played, as he appeared in 63 matches, one more than Frenkie de Jong, and 56 of them were starts.

The midfielder shared a post on social media paying his tribute to the departing coach, saying:

"Thanks for everything, mister. Good luck in the future."

Sergi Barjuan will be his temporary interim manager in charge while the club search for a permanent replacement.
