Solskjaer to stay at Man Utd despite crushing Liverpool defeat

The Norwegian boss is under immense pressure after his side’s underwhelming performances in recent weeks.

Manchester United were defeated 5-0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. The painful defeat generated serious doubts about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at the club, but the Norwegian manager is set to continue his job.

According to

Sky Sports

, there is no suggestion from inside the club that Solskjaer's job is under threat at this point. Recent

reports

around Antonio Conte’s contacts with Manchester United are also dismissed by the British broadcaster.

In an interview after the Liverpool game, Solskjaer described the defeat as his “darkest day” as a manager at the club but insisted he still believes in his project.

"We've come too far as a group and we're too close to give up now,"

he said on Sunday.

"I've heard nothing else [about a potential departure]. This is the lowest I've been, but as I've said, I accept the responsibility.

"I do believe in myself, I do believe that I am getting close to what I want with the club, I think what we've done, what I've seen, the development, of course, the results lately haven't been good enough. But I've got to keep strong and I do believe in what we've been doing, the coaching staff and the players."

Solskjaer’s side will face Tottenham in their next Premier League game on Saturday, before meeting Atalanta in a Champions League match next Tuesday.
