Koeman responds to Dani Alves links with Barca

The Blaugrana boss says a move for the former defender has not been discussed at the club.

Dani Alves offered his services to Barcelona in an

interview

last week. The former Brazil international, who has spent eight years at Camp Nou, is currently without a club after terminating his contract with Sao Paulo.

In a press conference ahead of Barca’s Champions League game against Benfica, Ronald Koeman reacted to the rumors around Alves’ potential return to the club.

“I don't know anything about this issue,”

Koeman said.

“Nobody from the club has told me about the possibility and I don't like to answer.”

Alves made 391 appearances for the Catalan side between 2008 and 2016, winning 14 domestic trophies, three Champions League crowns, three UEFA Super Cups, and three Club World Cup honors.

Barcelona are keen to extend their key players’ contracts before bidding for new players. With the contract extension of Pedri being

completed

, the club are trying to sign a new deal with Ansu Fati.

Asked about Fati’s contract extension, Koeman said:

“It is true that they are close. It is very important news.

“He is a young player, with a lot of quality. He is one of those who should mark the future of this club.”

After their match against Benfica, Barcelona will meet Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday.
