Aurier will not play for Villarreal until 2022

The Yellows are unable to have the services of their newest signing in the group stage of the Champions League.

Villarreal

acquired the services of ex-Tottenham player

Serge Aurier

on a free transfer before the international break.

The defender and Tottenham agreed to terminated his contract making him free and then he was snapped up by Villarreal coach

Unai Emery

, who was looking to recruit at the right-back. Other players available for that position are Juan Foyth, Mario Gaspar and Ruben Pena.

However, Aurier appears more fit into a wing-back role if Emery decide to do that but the defender’s ineligibility, his European experience won’t come in handy.

He has not yet had his debut for his new club and may not be in action until February as he arrived after the registration deadline.

The full-back will be registered in February and hopes to feature in the Champions League knockout stage or at least in Europa League. Consequently, he will not play in their group stage clashes in the Champions League when they get ready to go against Young Boys on Wednesday and definitely their other three games in the group stage.

Notwithstanding that, Aurier with go with his Switzerland teammates Tuesday morning.
