Court recommends dismissal of Ronaldo rape lawsuit in Las Vegas

A federal judge in Nevada has recommended the dismissal of Cristiano Ronaldo’s rape lawsuit on Wednesday.

The Portuguese superstar has been accused of raping a woman in Las Vegas more than ten years ago.

Mayorga, a former teacher and model, sued the soccer star for over $375,000, the amount

Ronaldo

paid her in a confidentiality agreement in 2010 after she claimed he assaulted her in a hotel room in June 2009.

Magistrate Judge

Daniel Albregts

suggested dismissal of the case, blaming Mayorga's attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, for basing his client's argument on papers related to secret talks Ronaldo had with his attorneys.

"Dismissing Mayorga's case for the inappropriate conduct of her attorney is a harsh result,"

Albregts wrote in his recommendation to US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey

.

"But it is, unfortunately, the only appropriate sanction to ensure the integrity of the judicial process."

The date for Dorsey to assess the recommendation had not been set as of Thursday.

"Stovall has acted in bad faith to his client's - and his profession's - detriment,"

Albregts decided

.

Stovall and other attorneys in his office did not immediately respond to telephone and email messages about Albregts' order.

Ronaldo's attorney

in Las Vegas,

Peter Christiansen

, said:

"We are pleased with the Court's detailed review of this matter and its willingness to justly apply the law to the facts and recommend dismissal of the civil case against Mr. Ronaldo."
