for England’s qualifiers in the World Cup, despite his form.

The England winger has been trying to regain his form following his move to

and failed to meet the back of the net or provide an assist so far in eight games.

His form is in contrast with what he represented at Dortmund in the 2020-21 season, as he found the target 16 times and contributed 18 assists in 38 matches in Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal.

Sancho has only started once and had two substitute appearances as England managed to make their way through Euro 2020, before being defeated on penalties at the hands of Italy.

Notwithstanding that, the England boss named the 21-year-old among his 23-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary, and he aims to back the youngster as he endures a tough road.

Does he deserve to be in [the England squad] on these performances over the last few weeks? Well, probably not,"

Southgate said.

"But I think we feel we have invested in Jadon over a period of time, we believe he can get to a high level.

"I would like some time with him to chat with him and help that process that's going on at Manchester United as well and I think for him to feel that we have belief in him at this point is a good message."

Southgate also supported the England international who recently joined the Premier League, where it is more difficult to hit the same numbers he did in the German top flight.

"

The Bundesliga is totally different, Dortmund is a big club but Manchester United is one of the biggest in the world,"

Southgate continued. 

"There's some adaptation to that, there's a definite adaptation to the league. You're not going to get the goals and assists numbers, anywhere near, in our league, that you are in the Bundesliga."

Sancho is hoping to score his first goal should he play in United’s clash against Everton on October 2.
