Liverpool react to homophobic slurs directed at Billy Gilmour

The Reds issued a statement to denounce homophobic chants aimed at the Scotland international during their game against Norwich.

was the subject of alleged homophobic chanting from a section of Liverpool fans. The homophobic slurs were condemned by the club’s LGBT+ fan group

Hours after their 3-0 victory against Norwich, Liverpool officially denounced the chants via an official statement.

“The chant is offensive and inappropriate - a message we have repeatedly communicated alongside Kop Outs.”

“We urge supporters to remember the inclusive values of the club and to refrain from using it in the future.”

Gilmour, who is on loan from Chelsea, was reportedly targeted with ‘rent boy’ chants during the game. 

Kick It Out, the anti-discrimination group, have previously condemned the chant, writing in 2019:

“The ‘rent boy’ chants have been directed at Chelsea for years, with little action taken by The FA or Police – and that must not continue. We are absolutely clear: the chant is homophobic and must be treated as such.”
