Lage wants to get more than what Espirito achieved with Wolves

Wolves’ new manager has talked about his plans for the club as they begin a new era.

Wolves

' new head coach

Bruno Lage

, who has taken

Nuno Espirito’s

place following his departure, has talked about his ambitions for a club that now must look further than what they have already achieved and start another era.

The Portuguese head coach has talked about some improvements that he wants to see in the team, starting with the team’s aggression in defense.

"We need to manage the ball better and be more aggressive without the ball,"

he says

. "We want to go forward, to play in a different way. I do not know if it is better or worse, it is just my idea. We need to be a more competitive team, a better team."

Lage has the experience of coaching in England as he worked at Sheffield Wednesday under Carlos Carvalhal for three years and also another six months at Swansea, although he thinks his days at Sheffield are the most important part of his experiences because of the pressure that the teams experience in the Championship.

"Sheffield Wednesday was a massive experience for me because of the way that the Championship is organized, competing Saturday and Tuesday. It was part of my success when I arrived at Benfica. It was because of that experience I was able to organize in the short term, play the games without training. It was very important."

The most important thing on the new boss’ mind is the new style of football that he is intending to show with Wolves compared to the one that they have been playing with the former manager.

"When we have the ball, we need to manage the ball better,"

he repeats

.

"When you start from the goalkeeper, if he has the chance to go short then we go short, if we have to go long then we go long, if we need to switch the play, we need to know how to switch the play. We need to always be balanced when we have the ball.

"At the same time, when we do not have the ball we should be more aggressive.

"If we go high, everyone goes high. If we stay medium, everyone is medium. If we need to drop to defend our goal, then everyone drops but we are still aggressive because the other team needs to feel that when they play us we are a hard opponent to play against."
