Alderweireld on the verge of joining Qatari side Al-Duhail

Sat 24 July 2021 | 12:14

The Spurs have reportedly agreed to a £13m offer for the Belgium international.

Toby Alderweireld

has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in recent weeks. Having spent six years at the north London side, the Belgian center-back might have to continue his career at a new club.

According to

The Telegraph

, the Spurs have agreed to a £13m deal for Alderweireld to join

Al-Duhail

. The move is subject to agreeing on personal terms and flying to Qatar to complete a medical at the Qatar Stars League club.

Since joining Tottenham in 2015, Alderweireld has featured in 236 matches for the club. The 32-year-old, who helped Spurs in their run to the Champions League final in 2019, played in five games for

Belgium

in their Euro 2020 campaign. A move to Qatar’s top-flight is unlikely to prevent Alderweireld from participating in the next year’s World Cup. Both Thomas Vermaelen and Yannick Carrasco were called up for the Red Devils’ Euro 2020 campaign, despite playing in Japan and China respectively.

Tottenham are keen to reshape their defense under Nuno Espirito Santo, with the effect of Fabio Paratici as the club's new sporting director being evident in their list of transfer targets. The English side are reportedly interested in making summer moves for Bologna’s

Takehiro Tomiyasu

and Atalanta’s

Cristian Romero

ahead of the next season.
