Leverkusen to offer €20 million deal for Ginter

The World Cup winner, who has been in flying form during past seasons, is reportedly on top of Die Werkself’s wish-list as he previously revealed that there had been 'no talks or negotiations' with the club about a contract extension.

According to

Bild

Bayer Leverkusen

are preparing a formal offer in the region of €20 million for Gladbach centre-back

Matthias Ginter

.

Following the departures of Aleksandar Dragovic, and the retirement of Lars and Sven Bender, Leverkusen are looking to bolster their defensive ranks.

While Leverkusen’s Tin Jedvaj is understood to be close to a move to Lokomotiv Moscow while Edmond Tapsoba is set to miss the start of the season due to an injury.

Although Celtic’s Norwegian centre-back,

Kristoffer Ajer

, was Die Werkself’s first choice for the position, he seems to have opted for a move to Brentford instead.

As a result, Leverkusen have moved the former Dortmund defender, who joined Gladbach on a €17 million deal in 2017, to the top of their wishlist.

The 27-year-old centre-back’s contract is due to expire next summer as he previously revealed during the Euros that there has been no ongoing negotiation with the club over a contract renewal.

"There have been no negotiations or any other talks regarding the contract yet,"

Ginter told a Euro 2020 press conference last month

, "but that's quite normal during the tournament. We will sit down afterwards."

Ginter

has made over 130 appearances for Gladbach but has to take personal ambition into account.
