Monchi "sorry" for how Sergio Ramos exited Sevilla: He gave us a lot

Former referee Antonio Jesus Lopez Nieto visited Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to interview Monchi for Canal Sur Television's Cara a Cara show.

Monchi

is Sevilla's sporting director, and he has received praise for his efforts.

The two talked about various subjects from Monchi's life and career, including the contentious transfer of

Sergio Ramos

to Real Madrid in the summer of 2005.

Ramos, who came through Sevilla's junior system after being born in neighboring Camas, was sold late in the window, and there has been enmity between Ramos and the Andalusian club's supporters ever since.

It differs from the more cordial connection between Sevilla supporters and players such as

Ivan Rakitic

,

Dani Alves

, and the late

Jose Antonio Reyes

, all of whom left the club for better opportunities. In the interview, Monchi came up and confessed that the club might have handled the situation better.

"I'm sorry," he said in comments carried by

Marca

. "I'd like to break a spear in favor of Sergio. Just as the sale of Reyes gave us a lot, Sergio's also did. Possibly we confused the message. I'm the first to raise my hand because we didn't handle the sale as well as we did with Jose Antonio's.

"Reyes was always loved. With Sergio, I hope that time will heal the wounds and enable him to be recognized for what he was, a magnificent player who gave us a lot."

Ramos, who is a free agent after 16 years and 22 trophies with Real Madrid, has been linked with a return to the Andalusian city. However, it was quickly shot down by both the club and the player.
