Although the Los Blancos have offered a new contract to their French defender amid the uncertainty of his future, Varane is yet to respond as he enters the final year of his Real Madrid contract.

Trying to avoid the risk of losing the France international for free, Real Madrid will have to sell the French man if they cannot tie him down to a new contract.

According to

Diario AS

, Real Madrid have come to a conclusion that Varane is not going to sign a new deal as the 28-year-old’s contract situation will lower his value in the eyes of rival clubs.

Hence, Real Madrid have lowered their asking price to €50million from €60million.

 The Athletic

 reported last week that

Manchester United

, who are on the lookout for a centre-back this summer, have their eyes fixed on Real Madrid’s defender.

The Red Devils’ legend,

Nicky Butt

, urged his side to get Raphael Varane’s signature

from Real Madrid. He said: “Everyone talks about Raphael Varane. I understand he's a little bit older than most people would perhaps like, but you just have to go back to the days of Teddy Sheringham.

“I think we bought him when he was 32, and we went and won the treble with him. If Varane is available, then I'd go all out for him.”
