Lopetegui turned down Tottenham’s offer - Sevilla chief

Wed 23 June 2021 | 19:30

Tottenham are still on the lookout for a new manager as they have spun through Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso.

Sevilla

president

Jose Castro

revealed that

Julen Lopetegui

did not accept

Tottenham

’s offer.

Lopetegui has tried to rebuild his reputation with Sevilla after being dismissed by Spain and Real Madrid in 2018.

Last season, he helped his side finish La Liga sitting fourth on the table and delivered qualification for the Champions League, having won the 2019-20 Europa League.

Tottenham’s search for the new manager after Jose Mourinho’s dismissal has seen them linked with Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte, on the verge of reaching an agreement with the former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca and going down to farce when the club supporters did not like Gennaro Gattuso as their coach.

If Castro’s claims are correct, Lopetegui will not answer Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s call.

"

Julen rang me and told me,"

Castro told

Cadena SER

about an offer he referred to as "dizzying".

"Some coaches are more driven by economic factors but Julen is very clear that he is happy here and he even said it would be very difficult to find a better place to work than here.

"We believed and believe in him, giving him a two-year contract extension, and I'm sure he will bring much more to the club."

The doubts at Tottenham were worsened when rumors surrounding

Harry Kane

were raised, with reports of Manchester United offering him a £100million contract this week.
